Not even a mile from our beach house there was a bird sanctuary. It was a small joint but had quite a few birds. It was ‘free’ admission with donations welcome. Mostly ran by volunteers and donations, they rescue and take in sick or wounded birds of Florida. The sanctuary was direct beach front and you could enter from the street or the beach. I didn’t know that before we went or we would have walked on the beach and entered from there, mama and daddy did later in the week. I would go again! It was a lil’ smelly though, but to be able to see close up of these lil guys…the stench was worth it! :)
They had a lot of their birds in pens but a lot of the birds that they had already released just hung around and walked the paths.
Ugly ol’ bird. And he was not pleased with me taking his picture..
They had a ton of these guys living there. At first I thought there was something wrong with their beaks.
Baby pelican…ooglay!
I would go back to this beach just to have a snoball. My word, best shaved ice I have ever had! They sharpen their blades daily and the ice is extra fine and smooth! They have tons of flavors and you can put it in any combination you want. You can even add cream to the mixture or put ice cream on the bottom! We only found it a couple days before we left or I would have needed one every day.
I ate every bit of it.
Gator bite (How appropriate!) – tangerine and blue raspberry! And leave it to Kyle to get plain ol’ cherry..but still good!
They poke holes so the flavor gets in there good. They even put gummy worms or bears on top at your request! Peña Colada, tangerine and passion fruit.
Best shaved ice ever, Snoballs.
